Sea otter
There are about 2,000 to 5,000 sea otters left in the wild. Their biggest threat is being hunted by humans. Other threats are conflict with humans, oil spills, fishing nets and pollution. In the 1700s, they were nearly hunted to extinction by fur traders. Then in the 1900s people signed the fur seal treaty and sea otters gained protection.
